Coast Guard rescues injured man on Lake Erie

MARBLEHEAD, Ohio - The Coast Guard rescued a man, Friday at 11:18 a.m., who lacerated his arm while boating six miles north of here on Lake Erie.

The 62-year-old male notified Coast Guard Station Marblehead using marine-band radio Channel 16.

Station Marblehead launched a 33-foot Special Purpose Craft-Law Enforcement boat to recover the injured man.  The boat crew transferred the man to Port Clinton Municipal Pier were an Emergency Medical Services ambulance took him to Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton, Ohio.

"Channel 16 is the international hailing signal and is monitored at all times by the Coast Guard," said Petty Officer Jason Perkins, Station Marblehead crew member.

The Coast Guard reminds all boaters to use marine-band radio channel 16 to contact the Coast Guard if they are in distress.  Use of a cell phone could provide rescuers with a false location of your vessel.  For additional boating safety information, go to http://www.uscgboating.org.
