BARGE FIRE ON CHICAGO SANITARY AND SHIP CANAL CHICAGO - The Coast Guard Captain of the Port Chicago has closed the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal to all vessel traffic between the South Harlem Avenue Bridge and the South Pulaski Road Bridge as a result of a barge explosion and subsequent fire at Cicero and 44th street. The Coast Guard has personnel on scene and is working closely with local emergency responders to stabilize the situation, ensure public safety, and mitigate environmental impacts. The Captain of the Port has initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the accident. ###
