UPDATE
MAUMEE RIVER RE-OPENS - SPILL RESPONSE CONTINUES

TOLEDO, Ohio -  The Coast Guard has re-opened the Maumee River to all commercial and recreational vessel traffic.  The Coast Guard's Toledo Marine Safety Unit continues to respond to an oil spill on the Maumee River.

The source of the spill was a partial failure of a heating oil containment tank located near the Toledo Sports Arena.  Approximately 550 gallons of heating oil leaked into the Maumee River.

The Coast Guard is the lead agency for the maritime response and is working with Sports Arena, Inc., state and local agencies and some local industry representatives who have been able to assist with equipment and personnel.  The spill continues to be under investigation and responders are on-scene at the Sports Arena and various locations along the Maumee River.

Please call Commander Mark Skolnicki, MSU Toledo Public Affairs Officer, with any questions, during normal business hours (8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.).  After hours, the MSU’s Port Operations Department may be able to field calls from the media at (419) 418-6050.  You can also contact Chief Jeff Hall at (216) 214-3859.
